First Lieutenant Jeffrey Adams of the 1088th Engineering Battalion of the Louisiana National Guards 256th Infantry Brigade, was deployed to Iraq in November 2004. In Baghdad, November 7, 2004, while following procedures involved with road clearance, an improvised explosive device (roadside bomb) detonated in very close proximity, amputating his left leg above the knee. He was airlifted to Germany and then to Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington where he remained hospitalized until May 2005. It was discovered that his other leg was also broken in the explosion. He also has nerve damage in his right foot. First Lt. Adams has undergone 15 surgeries since his injury. His spirit and recovery are remarkable. He is looking forward to marrying his fiance, and finishing his final four credits toward his Mechanical Engineering degree from Louisiana State University. First Lt. Jeffrey Adams is the recipient of the Purple Heart, Louisiana War Cross, and various training and war-time medals. Thank you for your courage and the sacrifice you have made for our country.
