Lance Corporal  Hardy Mills IV                      Previous  |  Next

My name is Hardy P. Mills IV.  I was born in Azle TX, March 9th 1984 and raised in Weatherford, TX.  I went into the Marines 12-30-2002.  On June 29th of 2004, I was on base in Fallujah, Iraq and was on top of a gun truck and me and a fellow marine were struck by a rocket propelled grenade (RPG). I was medevac to Germany and had multiple surgeries. My injuries were a lacerated spleen, broken scapula, severed artery in right leg, lost most of the muscle in my left hamstring, both lungs collapsed, bacterial infections from the shrapnel, severe burns, multiple skin grafts, etc. The doctors said I probably wouldn’t live long but I showed them.

After Germany, I sent out to Bethesda MD where I went through more surgeries. There I was told I wouldn't walk ever again, but I am walking now. While in the hospital, I learned that my grandfather had died the same day I was injured, and also my dog, Scooby. It's really strange - definitely not a good day for me or my mother, but in a way my grandfather was with me. Finally, I was medically discharged in 2006.

My wife has been here for me the entire time and my two beautiful children, Hardy Mills V and Madelyn Mills.  I am very blessed -GOD has been good to me. I am proud to be an American, and I am proud to have been able to serve my country, and I would do it over a thousand times for this great land we call home. Since I am no longer a marine, my job now is to take care of other service members that have been injured and also my family.

                               God Bless and Semper FI,

                                   Hardy P. Mills IV
